@Kyra: Yes, PoA shifted the Harry Potter series from kids’ movies into more serious territory, and OP is a continuation in the same vein. Let’s hope we are going to get some seriously good movies in HBP and DH-I and II.

And, given your preferences, I think the only genre which remains is romance. Or maybe, action.

Me? Anything except romance, and slasher horror. But a good Fantasy and Sci-Fi tops the list any time.

The first two movies were NOT good. Daniel Radcliffe couldn’t act for nuts, I thought. Thankfully, Prisoner of Azkaban was a much better attempt. Now the last one was good, I admit.

Oh, and I don’t mind the books-to-movies conversion. Considering half the Hollywood movies are based on books and comics…

Favourite genre? Hmm. Okay, I don’t watch horror, and I despise slapstick humour. So anything apart from that works. Mostly.
I love animated films. And classics. Especially if they’re musicals.

@Kyra: Come on, apart from LoTR, Harry Potter remains as one of the few successful book to movie conversions. Of course, you have to overlook a few mishaps, like the hanging heads in Azkaban.

Otherwise yeah, converting books to movies is a really risky business.

I haven’t read the book, but I’ve seen the movie. I thought it was rather too kiddish for me to enjoy it completely.
I’ve decided that I’m not that great a fan of fantasy movies.
Harry Potter was a disaster. I wish they’d leave at least some books alone.

@Princess: Well, written word allows you to put your own interpretation on the story (I definitely had pictured Nymphadora Tonks to be different), while movies don’t live that freedom to you. As for sci-fi, rare “greats” have been converted to movie form…

Sounds fun. Though I’ve found that movies seldom do fantasy justice. The world of fantasy lies within you, and books are the doorways to those worlds. On the other hand, movies are better than the average science fiction book, when it comes to that genre.
