I've always been interrupted while watching The Namesake. It's happened some three times now. The movie got mixed reviews, I think.

Yes, I can believe that. I missed a Vikram Seth seminar in school. :)

I don't like horror. Even though I'm not too fond of translations, I enjoyed Feluda immensely.

@Kyra: Can you believe I also missed The Namesake the movie? Any thoughts on that?

Also, can you believe I missed a Shashi Tharoor book signing event in our college?

What have you read of Satyajit Ray? Feluda and his horror stories are really too good.

You might find Jhumpa Lahiri a little overrated. The Namesake was a pleasant read, I thought. As for the other two- not so much.

Shashi Tharoor is brilliant. Riot, especially. He packs quite a punch in that thin, frail- looking novel.

I must get back to Satyajit Ray someday.
Haven't read the other authors. Sigh. One lifetime just doesn't seem enough to read all that you want..

@Annie: Do get your hands on the series... I read the first book, and though it is scandalous compared to original Ramayana, I wouldn't want to stay away till I finished the series.

The books are surprisingly hard to get (I didn't say buy), right?

Anyways, care to take the tag as I suggested?

@Princess: Which authors have you been reading? There are a lots and lots of quality authors in India, my friend. Just see the names in my post, Amrita's post etc. for a start.

Children's stories? Yes, there is sadly very few good authors there.

I can't do this tag. I've read only a few books by Indian Authors, and I've regretted reading every one of them. I know that India can do better. So why aren't there good books out there?
The only book that I could get through (with a lot of effort) was Opal Mehta (the story of how Harvard won't accept a student unless they're proven bimbo's)... and everyone knows what that turned out to be.

I've just reviewed two books of 11 short stories by various popular (?!)Indian authors, I'll put them up soon. I honestly feel sorry for Indian children if these 'books' are all we can offer them.

@Cuckoo: Are you sure you are the same cuckoo who hates when I even say T, A and G in the same sentence?

Well, you've been missing for a long time, and I have been a bit busy. So I am yet to get around announcing the tag. Will do it soon.

------------------------------------
@Neihal: Good one. Do it soon. I would like to read about more Indian authors.

----------------------------------
@Amrita: Sorry. As I said, the other posts were already written, and I was moving around a bit. Hopefully, the next tags will be done faster than this.

I hope to get to Ramayana soon. I have reviewed some Ray books before this, do check the posts if you want.

Which authors haven't you read?

Well, about time! :)

That's a pretty cool list. I definitely recommend Banker although, as I said, it can take a while to get over the martial arts movie feel of the first few pages. Satyajit Ray! Now why didn't I think of him?! A couple of the writers I didn't recognize but will look up asap. Great going!
