@Mangesh: True... this review is quite old, and SoIF has grown on me since then. (I am actually waiting for Dance...)

But still I maintain that it is ugly (just not in the sense of this post). As you said, it is crass, and a bit too realistic at points. At some point, I just get irritated of liking a character (or get to like him) just to see him bumped off (sometimes in the most vicious way possible).

Kind of like "Rome" (HBO series). You flinch, you switch it off, just to go back and see if anybody is fairing OK at all :D

Song of Ice and Fire is Ugly ?!!
I have to more than strongly disagree there.
Its one of the best written books i have ever read.
Yes, its crass, but if you are willing to look past that, then the plot development and the character development is fabulous. Where else do you find characters so gray and find yourself hating some person with all your heart (Tyrion) only to root for him in spite of the thousands of imperfections he has.
And i could go on ... but surely ... Its an amazing book.

@Princess: Let's just agree to disagree. I am just commenting on the content, not the source ;)

Or rather, I was... It's more than 1.5 years now since I wrote this. Which just reminds me how old the blogging is getting... and how old I am getting.

Guess not, he is a 19 year old guy, and Eragon came off in '03. Well, you might have heard of Series... the movie, with Jim The Mask Carrie as the Count (it was good), and George Martin's name and books are being splashed around in the online comics (see: the link). That's how actually I heard about him.

Well, the next series are even more obscure I guess :)
